Long Time

So it's been a while since I've posted. Can't do it from work anymore, and life keeps interfering at home. So, onto my (slightly) boring existence.....

At work, the HR manager was in fact laid off. We are undergoing a big software update/upgrade and I've decided to get involved. First, this is something that I'm good at, and second, I'm afraid if I don't, my ass may be on the street next. I'm still worried about the end of the FY/End of the CY for layoffs. Including myself, they could put all of the remaining senior accounting management on the street. Now, I don't think that's what they want to do, but it's still scary. I think the best way to avoid this shit is to add value, so I'm trying to be a value creating S.O.B.

The family is sick. I don't know how else to say it, and man am I tired of it. Last time, it was the flu. Now it's some sort of relatively minor stomach virus. First GC#2 had it, now my honey has it. So far, I've managed to avoid and I'm trying real hard to keep up the good work.

Finally may have managed to luck into a gun at a reasonable price. I don't really want a pistol for any reason other than I want one. Also, I'm a little afraid that the stupid assholes running things right now are potentially going to try to take that right away from me. I mean I didn't vote for our president, but I certainly don't want him to fail, because that means that we (as a country) are failing along with him. I will say this though, Pelosi scares the shit out of me. That woman is crazy as a shithouse rat. Anyway, looking to try and pick that up tomorrow.

Not much done on the jeep over the last few weeks. Got some wiring soldered, and tried to run some of the wiring under the dash. I've also been trying to find some new (really cheap) axles to replace the drum brakes under the jeep now. I think my best bet is to upgrade the existing axles to disc brakes and let it rip. For now, I'll keep that as option #1.

One quick shout out to my LSU Tiger Baseball team who won the SEC tournament, out of the losers bracket no less. On to play Southern in Baton Rouge this weekend.

Friday, finally

It's been a somewhat miserable week for this blogger. Sick family at home and I've been about half sick myself. Not fun when you just don't look forward to going home. As of today, everyone seems to be feeling better and I'm hoping we've crossed a divide with respect to this flu outbreak.....

Never did get the test results back from the Dept. of Health and/or CDC to see if GC #2 had the swine flu. Since they never called, I am going to assume she didn't.

At work, not too much going on. Got through the 2nd half of 2009/2010 planning meeting without bloodshed. Got let in on the fact that our HR manager is probably going to get cut and we (my acctg folks) will be taking over the operations in conjunction with people from Tulsa. I'm not too sure I like this idea, butI know I've had problems with her, and in the final analysis the decision isn't mine to make.

Starting to see a very few signs of life in the job market. Still not a lot out there, but I've had a couple of contacts this week from people. One wanted to know if I knew anyone interested in a position she had and the other wanted to know if I was interested in a position in NY. Obviously neither is for me, but it's nice to see some stirring around in the market.

Now I need the "green shoots" that our esteemed president referenced to start growing like the freakin weeds in my back yard.

Had lunch with my old boss while I was vacationing. He had some interesting stuff to say, especially how it relates to the carbon tax/cap and trade and how it would affect the oil industry that so much of the Gulf Coast relies on. He and I both believe that it is going to absolutely devestate much of the coast from Corpus Christi all the way to Mobile. Kind of makes you wonder if I should really be working all that hard to try and get back there, or at least nearer to there. My initial thought is yes, I should, but I guess we'll see what happens over the next year. I don't think I can weasel out of our house without a huge loss for at least another year, and I really don't want to take a huge loss unless I get laid off/fired and absolutely have to.

Got a little work done on the Jeep over the last week. Have pulled the dash off, and soldering up all the wiring for the lights. Since everyone has been sick, it hasn't been easy, but in the evenings we've been going outside briefly to water plants. I let the girls water, and fire up the soldering iron to get a couple of connections done. In general the plan for this weekend is to get the soldering finished and wire up the dash. That will also require running grounds from the dash to the ground blocks I bought, and wiring the ground blocks to the frame. Once the dash is on, I can re-install the steering wheel and all related parts, and start thinking about the clutch. Frankly, it scares the shit out of me, because I think I'm eventually going to have to drop the tranny to replace the clutch, but we'll blow up that bridge when we get there.

More updates, vacation, swine flu,

So back to the vacation....some funny things have arisen out of that. I'll list a couple here for posterity. Keep in mind, these are probably only funny if you were there.

1. "I keep a very clean penis"
2. "Bitch, where's my pizza"
3. 1a.m. basketball tournament
4. Van Halen jam session, on the way back Sat night
5. Sat nite/Sun morning with only one bathroom...and that's in one of the other bedrooms
6. "You suck (punch), alternatively "Damn you and your ambition" (punch).

Now onto the not so f-ing amusing. So GC #2 is sick. With the swine flu going around, that's good news, right? Of course we go to the dr., she gets tested for the flu and it's positive for Type A flu. They can't subtype into swine (I refuse to call it A-H1N1) except at the CDC, so off her sample goes and we are all on Tamiflu now. My Honey was also not feeling well, although she's better and GC #1 is a little sick. I feel okay for now, but I'm trying to avoid people at work and plan to shut it down if I start feeling the list bit bad.

WTF is up with my knee?????

Worked on the jeep a little yesterday. Started soldering some of the wiring together on the headlight switch, pulled the dash back off so I can try to run some of that wiring and then put it back on. Some of my worst soldering yet, I'm really not too happy with it.

Not much else. Got a crap load of continuing education to get done before June 30. Should make it, but got to keep pushing.

Girls (all of them) are going back out of town in June. Looking forward to it so I can get work done on Jeep. Not sure what yet, but get some work done!! Maybe the clutch?
