In the new job search, I can't decide exactly what to do, so I'm going to take sort of a shotgun approach to this and see how it works. Here's what is going on.....
Only pursuing CFO jobs, or very senior management in accounting/finance.
Only in the geographic South, basically the Gulf of Mexico coast from Houston to Jacksonville and up the East coast to southern Virginia.
Only jobs that pay approximately what I make now, or offer a greater return in the futue that's not too much of a stupid risk.
So far, I've talked to a couple of recruiters and reviewed a few of their positions. I've applied online for several positions, and have heard back nothing. Positions have been in Houston, Alexandria (LA), Mississippi, and Richmond VA. Other possibilities in Jacksonville and Savannah sound interesting as well.
Obviously the economy is affecting things, the jobs I am interested are fewer and don't offer as good of a moving benefits. I've turned down some possibilities in areas I'm not interested in, and intend to continue that unless I stumble across one that says they'll buy my house for a minimal loss. That would be the one benefit that would make me pause and think seriously about someplace like New Jersey.
Onto other more personal stuff......GC #1 has been having a hernia for a while now. I think I've mentioned in other posts, but if not, well there it is. Not too painful, but bloody and kind of gross looking. She has now had a series of X-rays down there to determine whether or not she needs surgery. While the final answer isn't in yet, smart money says "Yes". I believe she will have a surgical procedure in the next 30 days or so. It's really not a good thing to know your 5 year old is going to have to go under the knife.
On the Jeep, I've just been working on the wiring. Been trying to get it run semi-neatly and screwed down. Still need to reorder the fuel hose I got for Christmas, since it's clearly too big and get the correct one. Before locking down all the fuel tank/hoses, I also need to finish drilling the body mounts and get the last couple taken care of. Sometime during all of this excitement, I need to get an EZ-out, or some really good drill bits and try to remove the exhaust bolt that broke off in the header. My goal is still to have it street drivable by mid year of 2009. All of the above items are subject to change if a sudden job change comes along. Then the focus would be on prepping the Jeep to be flat towed to whereever I have to take it. That would mean focusing on tires, axles and bearings so things didn't just freeze up in the middle of nowhere.
On the football front, my Tigers closed out the year by stomping Ga. Tech. I really enjoyed it, because it means the GT people at work can't give me any crap about the game. In football at least, we turn to recruiting. Fortunately for me, that looks really good at the moment and I think we'll have a top 5 class. Basketball doesn't look too good, but I think that's a lack of talent and now necessarily a reflection of the new coach.
Later!
